Country Red, White and Blue

I've often wondered if the stork's GPS was down that April day in '59, causing the delivery intended for Mr. and Mrs. Yoder in Lancaster (Amish counrtry), to land smack-dab in the city of Pittsburgh.  Or perhaps, there was a mix-up in heaven the day of my birth, and I was sent to the city by accident.  Whatever the case, I've the soul of a country girl.

So, when the talking-heads on the cable news shows start to make my head spin, and I'm all fed-up with secular-urban-chatter, I pack-up the pick-up, crank-up the country tunes, and head on out of the city for a little bit of down-home red, white and blue!

Alabama's, "Born Country"
(If you have it on your computer, play while you view)

Clear creeks

and cool mountain mornin's.

Honest work out in the fields.

Cornbread in my mamma's kitchen.

Daddy saying grace before the meal.

Family ties run deep in this land.

And I'm never very far from what I am.

I was born country and that's what I'll always be.

Like the rivers and the woodlands, wild and free.

I got a hundred years of down-home, running through my blood.

I was born country, and this country's what I love.

Moonlight and you here beside me.

Crickets serenadin' in the yard.

What more could two people ask for,

laying here in love beneath the stars.

Now this is where I wanna raise my kids.

Just the way my Mom and Daddy did.

I was born country, and that's what I'll always be.

Like the rivers and the woodlands, wild and free.

I got a hundred years of down-home, running through my blood.

I was born country, and this country's what I love.

I was born country, and that's what I'll always be.

Like the rivers and the woodlands, wild and free.

I got a hundred years of down-home, runnin' through my blood.

I was born country,

and this country's what I love.

I was, born country.

All of the photos were taken in Mercer and Venango counties in Pennsylvania by Mrs. Green Jeans.
"Born Country" was recorded by Alabama in 1991.  It was written by Byron Hill and John Schweers.
